As GNSS-dependent systems face growing threats from jamming and spoofing, Safran Electronics & Defense and Emitech Group are building on their long-standing relationship to facilitate access to advanced testing capabilities in France. By bringing together complementary expertise in GNSS simulation and testing, the initiative supports the development and validation of more resilient navigation solutions in Europe.

Responding to a Growing Need for GNSS Resilience

GNSS technologies have become critical to a wide range of applications, particularly in defense, aviation, maritime and rail. At the same time, navigation systems are increasingly exposed to interference, jamming and spoofing, creating a growing need to test and validate their resilience under representative conditions.

Against this backdrop, Safran Electronics & Defense and Emitech Group are combining complementary areas of expertise: Safran’s advanced GNSS simulation technologies and Emitech Group’s extensive experience in testing, qualification and certification, including GNSS testing in anechoic environments.

A first infrastructure is already available near Paris (Emitech Group’s Montigny-le-Bretonneux site) for testing and demonstrations.

Making Advanced Testing More Accessible

The initiative aims to give companies easier access to sophisticated testing capabilities without requiring them to invest in their own anechoic chambers, simulation equipment and associated expertise.

Companies can test GNSS receivers and antennas in representative environments and assess their performance against complex jamming and spoofing scenarios.

Emitech Group’s broader ecosystem provides an additional benefit: GNSS resilience testing can be combined with EMC, environmental and qualification activities within the same project, helping clients simplify test campaigns and reduce development time.

For companies considering Safran Electronics & Defense simulation solutions, the infrastructure also provides an opportunity to see the equipment operating under representative laboratory conditions.

A Rare Capability in Europe

The combination of anechoic test facilities, Safran’s GNSS and CRPA simulation capabilities and Emitech Group’s GNSS and EMC testing expertise creates a particularly rare offering in France and Europe, accessible to third-party clients. Test operations conducted under accreditation are carried out by Emitech Group’s laboratory.

This capability is particularly relevant for the defense industry, where reproducing increasingly demanding GNSS interference scenarios is becoming essential to developing and validating resilient PNT solutions, especially for CRPA antennas and receivers.

The first installation at Montigny-le-Bretonneux represents an initial step. Its capabilities are expected to evolve progressively to address more complex scenarios, while Safran Electronics & Defense and Emitech Group are exploring opportunities to extend the approach according to future requirements and market demand.

Supporting European PNT Resilience and Sovereignty

Beyond its industrial benefits, the initiative contributes to a broader strategic objective: strengthening European capabilities in resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing.

By bringing together Safran’s expertise in navigation and GNSS simulation with Emitech Group’s GNSS and EMC testing and qualification capabilities, the initiative gives European industry greater access to the resources needed to develop and validate technologies designed to withstand jamming and spoofing.

It ultimately contributes to reducing external dependencies, preserving critical expertise in Europe and accelerating the development of more resilient European PNT solutions.
